IT Firms Take On WFH

While other IT firms such as HCL are considering bringing in 20 percent of its workforce back on office premises on a rotational basis by December end.

On the other hand, Tech Mahindra said that over one-fourth of the company’s employees are already back in their offices across the different company locations.

While IT firms are talking about the increase in their workforce in office, the US online retail giant Amazon allowed its corporate staff to WFH till June 2021 when news came out about their frontline workers contracting the coronavirus.

Prior to this, Google, the world’s biggest search engine had announced that its employees would continue to WFH until July 2021

The social media service providers such as Facebook, Twitter and others are some of the technology firms that allow some of their employees to move to remote work permanently if they want.

Increase In Working From Office Staff In IT

Currently, HCL is operating with around 6 percent of its staff in the office.

“By December, the company plans to increase the number up to 20 percent, but will not surpass 30 percent in the future unless the coronavirus pandemic ends,” said Apparao VV, the chief human resource officer at HCL Tech.

While over 25-30 percent of its staff were back at the workplace at several locations as informed by CP Gurnani, the CEO of Tech Mahindra.

Further, Tech Mahindra is keeping a watch on the number of cases and using its app Mhealthy to keep the track of the health of its staff.

TCS, Infosys And Wipro Working Model

IT giants such as TCS, Infosys and Wipro want to keep on continuing with the WFH model for their employees in India.

On the other hand, they have started to allow many employees in Europe and some parts of Asia to work in offices.

The head of human resources at Infosys, Richard Lobo said, “We have about roughly 10 percent of the people working in the office in continental Europe. In China and Hong Kong, we have about 90 percent of the people working in the office and less than 10 percent working from home,”.

He mentioned the company’s belief in a hybrid model, which involves a mix of work from home and office.

Infosys is “prepared for this, as well as ready to help our clients prepare for it”, he added.

According to Wipro, the decision to bring back more staff in offices depends on the coronavirus pandemic situation and customer requirements.
